Instructors

Matthew Kearns is the owner and operator of the Guitar Studio since its opening in 2002.  Matthew holds music degrees in both Classical and Jazz studies. He has over twenty five years of teaching experience with students of all ages and skill levels. Matt currently teaches guitar, bass, voice, mandolin, banjo and ukulele.  Aside from teaching, Matt oversees the day to day operations. 


Matthew is an active musician in the area performing in various settings as a soloist and as a member of several different groups .

Joel Caputo

Joel Caputo is an active saxophonist and music education student at the University of Rhode Island. At URI, he has studied both classical and jazz saxophone under the instruction of Jared Sims, Jonathan Amon, and William Jones. As a musician, he has performed at the Regional North American Saxophone Alliance Conference, the International Saxophone Symposium, the Newport Jazz Festival, and was a chosen participant of the Southern New England Honors Band during his senior year in high school. Outside of the university, he has performed at several venues in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, playing a variety of jazz and contemporary styles. He has served as an adjudicator for the South Kingstown Music Festival, and is dedicated in the pursuit of teaching and coaching young musicians.
